Don't judge a book by it's cover. This is especially apt when it comes to Richard Paul Evans, whose heavy-handed spiritual "classics" (sarcasm) leave the reader amazed that such horrifyingly awful crap can come wrapped in such a beautiful-looking package. The covers of his recent books look like something designed by Martha Stewart, hiding the self-published awful Twilight-esque fan-fiction slash fest that awaits inside.
It's probably my own fault but I didn't connect how Mary Ann was connected to Jenna. But once I got past the confusion of the beginning and the end, the story of David and Mary Ann brought me to tears. They're love was beautiful and their daughter and Lawrence....just such a tragedy. But the way they slowly healed was so real and moving, I wish I was a better Christian. Can't wait to read The Letter.
The Timepiece is sequel to The Christmas Box, written by Richard Paul Evans. Its the story of David and MaryAnne Parkin, told through the diaries that David kept, and which came into Richards possession shortly after MaryAnnes death.Readers of The Christmas Box will remember MaryAnne as the widow who opened up her home to the Evans family, Richard, his wife Keri, and their daughter, Jenna. They were allowed to live in the Parkin mansion as long as they took care of such things as cleaning,
Good prequel to the Christmas Box detailing David and Maryanne Parkin. Not really a holiday book like the last book. This was sad. Some memorable quotes: "The only promise of childhood is that it will end. And when it is gone, it is gone.""I cannot answer for the whole of human suffering. I can only speak from my experience. But I have found that my pain is instructive. That through it I become more than I would otherwise."
This short story was a sequel to The Christmas Box but was a flashback that told the story of Mary, who was an old lady in The Christmas Box, and her marriage to David, who accepted her unborn child as his own, and how they eventually lost their angel when she was just a child. It made me cry, but also had some very impressive parts that explained how Mary acquired the stone angel that sits on the little girl's grave. The ending went back to present day and was a happy ending. I highly recommend
I think that the trilogy that Richard Paul Evans wrote is wonderful for Christmas time. These are short books and has such wonderful messages. He tells stories of love to anyone no matter their color or race. He teaches us to respect and love one another and I think this one is a wonderful book. Four stars only because they aren't as deeply meaningful or captivating as some others but still amazing works.
