This book took my breath away.

WOW. Simply, wow. That is the only word I can use to describe this masterpiece. It has been such a long time since I have read such a rich, emotional and tension filled romance. Not only did Scandal have me hooked from the very first page, but this is the first book, in a very long time, where I had to read straight through into the wee hours of the night because I couldn't put it down. When an author can write such a book, that book is destined for greatness. I wouldn't be surprised if Scandal becomes one of the favorites of 2009, and perhaps placed on most reader's lists for all time favorite historical.

Readers looking for a deeply emotional and very well-written book will love this one. I have a certain weakness for flawed but redeemable characters, and this tale very much hit the spot. I cannot wait to see more historicals from this author in the future.
–All About Romance
Jewel plays readers' emotions like a virtuoso, ensuring they will eagerly follow her characters into dramatic, intensely passionate and gripping love stories that will steal your heart and make you beg for more. She grabs you at the first word and never lets go.

This is my first book by this author and I loved it. This is surprising to me in that I normally do not enjoy books where the hero/heroine is not faithful to their wedding vows. I like unwavering commitment! And like most who will be reading this review, my days are a circus and I covet my reading time. Therefore, I do not wish to invest in a book where theres little chance of me liking the hero. I had heard lots of good things and wanted to try this one, and I am so glad that I did! This is aDid not finish. Writing style too wordy. I was not interested in anything.I also did not like the jumping back in time. There are four chapters that interrupt the current story to tell a short back story about the main characters. I read those four chapters first and then went back to read the rest. It would have been better if the author told the entire back story first, and then proceeded to the current story. There was nothing in the back story that needed to be spread out the way it was. It
Gwilym, Earl of Banallt, has quite a reputation of being a womanizer and a rake. Scandal follows him wherever he goes. Women practically fall at his feet, except for the one woman who has become an obsession. Sophie Evans, a widow he first fell in love with, while her husband was still alive. Tommy Evans married Sophie for her fortune, and left her in the country while he continued his debauched lifestyle in London. Banallt was one of Tommys friends who joined him as he cut a path through
This was really a good one!I want to read more of Carolyn Jewels books. However, I need to take off a star bec the hero wore pantaloons and top boots to a ball. This is appalling. When I read this part it was like my finger nails on a chalk board!I guess I should be greatful the author didnt send him and heroine to a ball at almacks!!!! Shudders!!
Gorgeous prose using period appropriate language. I felt Banallt's ache and longing quite acutely. He makes a wonderful hero, unwaveringly loyal, devastatingly handsome with enough past rakish experience to heat up their intimate scenes. Sophie, she takes too long to remove her blinders and see Banallt for what he is, rather than what the malicious gossips portray him to be.
2.5/5I suppose, there's something to be admired about this book: Jewel's writing is quite good, her characterization is solid, and the internal conflict is more than plausible. That said, the internal conflict is also where the story ultimately stumbled and dragged on and on. Don't get me wrong, I understood the heroine's point of view and position well. I just wanted more self-awareness from her when it came to her feelings for the hero in the last third of the book. The resolution of the
