3.5 starsI have made no secret of the fact that I struggle with Stephen Donaldsons writing. This is the only series of his that I have made any connection with, and my relationship to it is turbulent. Im not one of those people who needs to like the characters in order to like the book, but it helps if I care what happens to them. A bit meandering at times (and slightly anti-climactic), but it would seem a necessary thing in light of all the stuff that's obviously planned for 'Niebelungen-in-space' that Donaldson has planned. Still, highly complex characters who are all completely flawed and suffering throughout; in essence, some finely honed space opera here and worth the read.
