Such beautiful and descriptive writing by Kenn Kaufman. I'm lucky to have been involved in The Biggest Week in American Birding, birded so many of the areas Kenn mentions, and have visited The Black Swamp Bird Observatory many times. I loved every moment of this book.

This is more than a book about birds. I found that I was unable to put it down in certain parts and it remains unforgettable in most. I have been visiting Magee Marsh and the Lake Erie shoreline every year for the past 5 or 6 years to witness the spring migration. I will make this trip every spring without fail...forever. This book by Kenn Kaufman gives me a better feel for the whole bird migration process and will make my visits more meaningful. His last few pages of this book provide the

It was an easy enjoyable read and his descriptions are great. I would have loved a bit of a deeper dive into the mechanics of migration but I realize that would not be everyone's idea of a fun read. I think I have actually been to Magee Marsh, or at least one of the nearby refuges, but I'd have to consult my photos to be sure. Either way, this book is basically an ode to birds, bird watching, and land on the shores of Lake Erie. With a bit of info about a legal battle against wind turbines

Well written book from Americas preeminent birder now living in Northwest Ohio that examines the annual spring migration of birds through our backyards. A must read for anyone fascinated by these beautiful creatures. Residents of Northwest Ohio will find it particularly interesting as many local landmarks are discussed.

Kaufman is also the author of one of my favorite bird guides - Lives of North American Birds, so I was excited when I found this book. It has a great balance of personal accounts, details about conservation efforts, and relevant research on migration and migratory birds in general. I enjoyed the light-hearted nature of the book. It's an easy read but also full of interesting information.

Kenn Kaufman has written a beautiful tribute to bird migration. He takes us on a journey with migrating birds as they fly through northern Ohio, an important spring stopover site. Many neotropical migrants fly thousands of miles and need to rest periodically to recharge. Without those critical sites, a perilous journey can become fatal. In A Season on the Wind: Inside the World of Spring Migration, we learn a lot about wind turbines, a relatively new threat to migrant songbirds. Honestly, Ive
