Agamben is brilliant. I read his essay "Magic and Happiness" three times, one after the next.

Similar to his Idea of Prose, Profanations is a series of short writings spanning Agamben's various literary and philosophical concerns. The main essay, "In Praise of Profanation," seems to function as a bridge of sorts between earlier and later components of A.'s Homo Sacer series (from 1995's volume I to 2007's The Kingdom and the Glory, vol. If you like your Agamben short, sweet, and concentrated, then this is the book for you. Each essay takes on a very specific subject and dissects it from more angles than you could imagine. Potentiality is put aside for a while and Agamben returns to the problem of means/ends (if you're looking for a running theme), with digressions on literature, law, pornography, and cinema. Well worth your time.

Some very tasty essays in here. I especially recommend the chapters "Genius", "Magic and Happiness", and "In Praise of Profanation".
