1788 - The French Revolution; beginning of Industrial RevolutionIn France, as the revolution begins, Henri, the bastard offshoot of the Morland family, strives to protect his family. He binds his daughter Heloise in loveless marriage to a Revolutionary, and allies himself with the vigorous Danton. But in the bloodbath of the Terror and the fall of Danton, Henri goes to the guillotine and Heloise flees to England where she is welcomed warmly by the Morland family. In Yorkshire Jemima's troublesome brood cause her anxiety - especially her youngest, Lucy, who disguises herself as a boy and runs away to sea - but at last she sees three of her children marry and the hope of an heir to Morland Place.

This is another solid entry in this HF series about the Morland family. This book takes place during the French Revolution and focuses heavily on Henriette-Louise Stuart and her father, who are the French Morland cousins. The characters in this one are really well written. I especially enjoyed Lucy, the Morland daughter who wishes she was born a boy so she could attend the University of Edinburgh and become a doctor. The history is on point, as always, and I love how the fictional characters areInitially, I thought this novel would be purely focused on the French line of the Morland family, but I was pleased to see the interweaving. In fact, there is some suspense left open at the end with regard to the tangled thread of the title. This book leaves more hanging, untied stories than previous ones.Harrod-Eagles captures the diversity of thought occurring in pre-Revolutionary France that developed in the previous books. In this period, radical thought meets radical actions and loyalties
Kind of heavy on the French Revolution, you were thinking hurry up, want to get back to all of the good family stuff but still a good read.

One of the better entries in the Morland Dynasty series. Full review to come.
#10 in the series. Revolution in France. I liked these characters so much that I started #11 as soon as I finished to find out what happens to them. This one left me feeling angry at what the female characters sometimes put up with because of their "sense of duty." Arg! ... oh & I've decided I will no longer read the blurbs on the backs of Morland Dynasty books until after I've read the books. They give too much away!
I didn't enjoy this tenth installment as much as previous novels in the series. Cynthia Harrod-Eagles has obviously researched her subject well but I found that some of the details of the French Revolution were a little meaningless to me. However I still became involved with the lives of the characters and want to know what happens to them next. As usual the end of this novel leaves many questions unanswered so I shall be looking out for the eleventh in the series before too long.
