Kit's Surprise: A Christmas Story (American Girl: Kit #3)
to boot, kit's best friend ruthie comes from a family who is a little bit more well off and can afford things like new dresses and tickets to the ballet. she doesn't understand the plight of people who are poor and who are losing everything. and kit just can't relate to ruthie's fantasy world that she lives in full of princesses and movie stars.
although this is a kids book, it definitely touches on some very heavy subjects but i would say it does a great job of "keeping it real" while also keeping it hopeful and happy. i love the american girl books so much because i grew up with them and the best part is that they are timeless. each girl's story takes place in a different time period so it gives young readers a bit of a history lesson but also, the problems that the girls face are problems that can still happen to anyone at any time and so these books are still super relevant. 💜💗
i will always love the original american girls best but i do love kit a whole lot as well.
Kit and Ruthie go to a movie and Ruthie brings up their Christmas tradition of going shopping and the ballet. Kit said they couldn't and she didn't have a dress anyway and they get in a big fight when Ruthie declines her offer. They don't talk for a long time. Kit starts working for Uncle Hendrick and saves her nickles. On Christmas Eve, there is a snowstorm so she can't get home. She has to sleep over at Uncle Hendrick's. She has to call Ruthie and Kit apologizes. On Christmas Day, Kit and
I liked this book because it was about to be Christmas and Kit was excited. Kit's dad had lost his job five months ago because of the Depression. Kit's best friend, Ruthie Smithens, and Kit were going to the movies, which they liked to do very much. Ruthie's dad still had his job at the bank, so she could do whatever she wanted. Kit's family had to pay the bank every month, but they did not have enough money. Kit was afraid they might be evicted. One day, Kit and Ruthie had a fight. They did not

Another great Kit book! Ruthie (Kit's Best friend) and Kit get in a fight right before Christmas. Kit's family has no money to light their Christmas tree, So Kit earns money herself. Kit's family may get evicted from their house. Kit and Ruthie make up, and it's a wonderful Christmas for Kit, even if it's her last Christmas at home.I recommend this book! It's great, and I enjoyed reading it!
Love! I love to see how resilient and adaptable people can be. There's so much to learn.
My daughter desperately wants an American Girl historical doll, probably Kit. I'm reading Kit's books to see if I think this is a character I'd like my daughter to focus on. This book started off particularly well-written of the three I have read so far, with the historical details woven in to Kit's dilemmas, and lessons about pride and friendship. However, the ending was incredibly abrupt. It built up to Christmas, with lots of drama and then just ended awkwardly.
I think that this book could have been better, I thought it was pretty good. I saw most of the reason Kit and Ruthie got in a fight, but I think there could have been more details on how they go into the fight. Just as Kit hears that her house might be evicted, she worries about her family`s Christmas. When she hears that her uncle is sick, too, she races over to help him. Although her uncle and his dog are just about as upset, angry, and mad, at about the same level with each other. When the

🎄i seriously love kit's books so far and this one was definitely no exception. it's christmas time during the great depression and kit's family is going through some rough times. even with boarders staying at their house, they still don't have enough to pay the bills and are in danger of losing their home.to boot, kit's best friend ruthie comes from a family who is a little bit more well off and can afford things like new dresses and tickets to the ballet. she doesn't understand the plight of people who are poor and who are losing everything. and kit just can't relate to ruthie's fantasy world that she lives in full of princesses and movie stars.
