Relation Concering Books Gangsta Granny
Another hilarious and moving novel from David Walliams, number one bestseller and fastest growing children’s author in the country. A story of prejudice and acceptance, funny lists and silly words, this new book has all the hallmarks of David’s previous bestsellers. Our hero Ben is bored beyond belief after he is made to stay at his grandma’s house. She’s the boringest grandma ever: all she wants to do is to play Scrabble, and eat cabbage soup. But there are two things Ben doesn’t know about his grandma.
1) She was once an international jewel thief.
2) All her life, she has been plotting to steal the Crown Jewels, and now she needs Ben’s help…

Walliams is a clever writer. He hides all sorts of moral lessons (which I usually hate) in his books and always with a light touch. In this book Ben loves his Granny but he thinks she's boring. She cooks disgusting-smelling cabbage soup and plays endless games of Scrabble. But... she has a biscuit tin of shiny jewels, or perhaps they are just glittery glass, only at the end do you find out. And so their joint career as jewel thieves on a mobility scooter attempting to steal the Crown JewelsI absolutely love the TV show Little Britain so when I got the opportunity to read this book, I jumped right on it, even though it could be considered a childrens book. But hey, since the author is David Walliams (50% of Little Britain), I assumed it would be funny, and I love to laugh, so whats up? Gangsta Granny is definitely a kids book, but its also very funny, with lots of naughty words, such as bottom and The Queen is a prober gangsta! Ok, that last sentence might not be a naughty word but
David Walliams is a prolific and well known childrens author and Ive been curious to try one of his books for a while. Gangsta Granny called out to me as the idea of a jewel thief grandma appealed to me.I knocked it down one star as in a few places, I felt the representation of elderly family members could have been better. The ending was sweet, if a little drawn out. However the story of Ben and his Grandma was really heart-warming to read and I can see lots of children enjoying it.
This was my introduction to Walliams, whose books Id been noticing for quite a while, and I picked this one since the plot sounded great fun (so do many of the others, actually). This is all about eleven-year-old Ben, whose parents are obsessed with a dancing show Strictly Stars Dancing, and who want him to take an interest in it as well. No, not just an interest, but they wish hed turn a contestant and conquer the dancing world on both sides of the pond. But Ben is really interested only in
Upgrading to five stars. It's a hit with the kids and lots of fun to read aloud. Plus Raj!!!
